As we say in South African Afrikaans, someone made a bit of a ‘blaps’ (blunder) on the BMW South Africa website. Although they didn’t release official images (although we corralled some spy shots together here for you) what the over-eager IT bods have done is launch the BMW 2 Series (think 1 Series Coupe replacement) configurator which in turn debuted full technical specifications.
The upcoming BMW 2 Series will be available in 220i, 220d and high-performance M235i guise. The configurator also gives a summary of all standard and optional equipment as well as interior and exterior colour combinations. Be sure to configure your 2 Series, quickly, before they take it down: http://www.bmw.co.za/virtualdealer
In short, the biggest news is the BMW M235i Coupe, which will run the familiar 3.0-litre TwinPower Turbo straight-six engine with 240 kW and 450 Nm of torque. Performance will be seriously brisk in its ability to sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds when fitted the automatic transmission and 5.0 seconds with the manual gearbox. Pricing starts at R503 079.
Beneath the M235i is the 220i Coupe with the 4-cylinder 2.0-litre engine that makes 135 kW and 270 Nm of torque, 0 – 100 km/h in 7 seconds and a top speed of 235 km/h. This will set you back R366 257. Finally, the 220d Coupe also gets 135 kW but 380 Nm of torque from its lusty diesel propulsion. 0 – 100 km/h is dusted in 7.1 seconds and the top speed is also 235 km/h while fuel consumption is a lowly 4.5 L/100 km on the combined cycle. Pricing starts at R393 000. Thanks for the heads up BMW S.A.
