Another foray in the steadily growing shooting brake market, the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo concept gives us a look at another potential Panamera-based model, a potential new styling language for the next generation car, as well as the latest drivetrain and in-car technology.
The new concept has been unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, where Porsche said in a press statement: “The body concept of the Panamera Sport Turismo is an outlook on a possible Porsche sports car of tomorrow.” In our opinion, the ‘liquid metal’ blue Sport Turismo knocks the socks off the Ferrari FF and Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake in the looks department. The Sport Turismo is 1 990 mm wide, 1 401 mm tall and 4 950 mm long, which makes it 61 mm wider, 17 mm lower and 20 mm shorter than the current Panamera.
The interior has a futuristic feel to it and offers individual seating for four passengers. Technology highlights include a large central TFT colour display that replaces the traditional driver’s instrumentation, including sat-nav and other relevant information. Two monitors on either side of this display, show images from the exterior cameras that have replaced conventional side mirrors. The Panamera Sport Turismo concept also offers connectivity for smart phones to control the car’s equipment via apps.
The Sport Turismo is powered by a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that combines a 3.0-litre V6 engine with 245 kW and a 70 kW electric motor. Total power output for the hybrid system is 306 kW. In pure electric mode, the concept car can reach speeds of up to 130 km/h and cover distances of up to 30 km. Fuel economy is a combined consumption of less than 3.5 L/100km, with CO2 emissions are under 82g/km. A lithium-ion battery is housed in the floor of the boot and can be charged via external source within 2.5 hours.
