Long Live Lotus

Some of the uncertainty surrounding the future of Lotus has been settled this week, after the DRB-Hicom CEO, Aslam Farikullah, revealed some near term plans from Lotus during an interview.

Aslam Farikullah has reportedly told the UK’s AutoExpress that DRB-Hicom has no intentions to sell Lotus or to move its production outside of the UK. Of course, the ‘Made in Great Britain’ stamp is essential to the sports car’s heritage and is also a major selling point for Lotus buyers.

Farikullah has declared that all of the 1 189 British jobs at Lotus will be kept and the company will focus on improving the quality level of the Elise, Exige and Evora models. Farikullah went on to say, “We have to be realistic and get the basic fundamentals of the business right. Then we will look at the next products. We are excited about the future and plan to grow the business.”

Having sold just 800 units in 2012 to-date, the company has long way to go before it’s back to full health and offering a revamped model line-up.
