It’s unlikely many South Africans will be popping across the globe to Germany any time soon to do a lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife, but there is no denying that a lap of the 20.8 km, 73-cornered Nürburgring is still a deathbed dream for any real petrol head. This is why we thought it relevant to report on the new price hikes that the track owners are enforcing.
Don’t forget that the fabled race track was forced to declare bankruptcy not so long ago and its future was only secured after the Rhineland-Palatinate’s state legislature agreed to provide a €254 million loan. This loan ensures enough breathing space to carry on running the circuit at least until 2013 reports say.
This of course has knock on effects for the petrol heads that grace the track on a daily basis. The new costs are: €26 or R295 for a single lap (this price has remained unchanged); €97 or R1 101 for four laps (€2 more than before); €202 or R2 295 for a nine lap ticket (€5 more than last year).
Only the absolute ring-meisters need consider a 25-lap ticket for €499 (R5 668), although this ticket does include free access to the museum. If 25-laps still won’t satisfy your need for speed, you’ll need to opt for a ‘season ticket’ for €1 475 or R16 752, which means you can hit the Nordschleife whenever you want, as long as the track it’s available.
To be honest we don’t care how much track access costs, we would give just about anything to do a lap of the storied track. Well, us and every other petrol head we know.
