At face value neither its name or idea are very original. A smaller version of the Volkswagen ‘Tiguan’, the Taigun compact crossover has been unveiled at the Sao Paolo Motor Show.
Featuring rugged styling with plastic body cladding, anodised skid plates and 17-inch alloy wheels, the Taigun seats four passengers with cargo space of 280-litres, (expandable to 987-litres with the rear seats folded flat).
Measuring 3 859 mm long, 1 728 mm wide and with a wheelbase of 2 470 mm, the Taigun is a good bit smaller than the 4 125 mm long Nissan Juke. It’s also just 100 mm wider than the Volkswagen Up city car, yet despite its larger footprint, is only 56 kg heavier at 985 kg.
Power for the Taigun concept comes from a newly-developed 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. It offers maximum power of 81 kW and 175 Nm of torque, but thanks to its low weight figure, VW claim it’ll accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in a respectable 9.2 seconds. Power is sent to the front-wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission, meaning the concept has no off-road intentions, but on-road it will average 4.5 L/100km.
