Jaguar C-X75 Is Going Nowhere

Well that was short lived… Yesterday it was expected that Jaguar would be entering the real-world testing phase for the C-X75′s hybrid electric drivetrain, but Jaguar’s global brand director, Adrian Hallmoark, has changed his tune and confirmed the project has been cancelled.

“When we first announced the project, during the worst economic downturn this country’s even seen, we expected things to have improved by now,” Hallmark has told the Brits at AutoExpress. “But considering the economic landscape as it is and the austerity measures, making a £1-million supercar seems wrong – especially when there are more important projects we are working on.”

Despite this latest announcement, however, Jaguar will continue to work on development of five working prototypes until May 2013. Part of this decision to likely to try and recover some development cost, as three C-X75s will be auction off, while one car will be kept as a demo vehicle and the final car will be kept for a future Jaguar museum.

We hate to say it, and we didn’t want to be right on this occasion, but we called this scenario back in August already: Why does Jag always promise the world?
