Lamborghini Prepare 50th Anniversary Celebration

Lamborghini 50th Anniversary Celebration

2013 marks the 50th anniversary of Ferruccio Lamborghini’s flamboyant automotive company coming into being and Lamborghini are putting the final touches onto what will undoubtedly be the biggest celebration in the company’s history. Lamborghini CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, has also confirmed plans to introduce a ‘very special’, limited edition supercar to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary.

Speculation around the ‘birthday’ car covers everything from a limited edition Aventador, like the Aventador J from not so long ago, to perhaps even a production version of the Sesto Elemento concept. While keeping mostly quiet on the topic, Winkelmann did at least say the car “will not be a revival or retro,” but added that it will have a one-off design.

All we know is it promises to be quite a car. The Ford GT40 and the Ferrari F50 were both extreme supercars gifted to the world courtesy of anniversary celebrations. Most notably, Lamborghini have done a 25th anniversary Countach and a 40th anniversary Murcielago in the past.

What is far more interesting to Lamborghini owners is Lamborghini’s 50th Anniversary Grand Tour, which concludes at the company’s headquarters in Sant’Agata, Bolognese on May 11th. It is an epic, 1 200 km rally through Italy starting on May 7. Why May 7 you may be asking yourself? Well, that is the same date 50 years ago that Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. was incorporated and the inaugural foundation stone laid at its factory in Sant’Agata.

We know of at least one South African owner who is shipping his Lamborghini to Italy for the occasion. We also know what any Lamborghini fan will be dying to see at the anniversary celebration… how about the new Lamborghini Gallardo replacement, Mr. Winkelmann? Fingers crossed.
