Famed Porsche tuners, Gemballa, have switched their attentions to the other side of the English Channel on a rare occasion and revealed an aftermarket program for the McLaren 12C Spider. We think the Germans will be nonplussed by this treachery. What has resulted is the stunningly-proportioned, almost Ferrari 458-looking, carbon fibre, aerodynamic body kit you see before you, and a reworked interior cabin which features the finest leather and Alcantara mix.
Specifically, the new aero package brings with it a redesigned front spoiler, front bumper, wider side skirts and an updated rear valence using bespoke mounting points so it lines up with the remaining, standard fitment bodywork. Gemballa are calling it the McLaren GT Spider, and it runs on GForged-one lightweight 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear forged alloy wheels. These wheels are available with either Gunmetal finish, a Black Magic look, or even diamond cut spokes. The wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres measuring 245/35 ZR20 at the front and 305/25 ZR21 at the rear.
The brake calipers are painted according to the customer’s preferences. We think orange is a good colour these days, especially against a dark coloured rim. The Gemballa McLaren GT Spider exterior customisation program is priced at €47 166, or roughly R658 000 in a direct currency conversion. That is quite a premium to pay over the already highly-priced McLaren 12C Spider. If there were a few tweaks under the engine cover we could probably condone it, but until there is, sorry Gemballa, we’ll take a pass on this one.
