Are Lamborghini Preparing An Aventador Super Veloce?

A lightly camouflaged Lamborghini Aventador has been spotted pile driving its way around the Nurburgring Nordschliefe. The logical conclusion is that it’s a development prototype for the upcoming Lamborghini Aventador Super Veloce or SV model.

The Lamborghini Aventador is already one of the fastest cars money can buy and it’s expected that the Aventador Super Veloce will be the fastest Lamborghini ever. The SV badge traces its heritage back to the original mid-engine supercar, the Miura, and with the exception of the Countach, the SV badge has graced every V12 Lamborghini production car ever since.

Should this Aventador SV materialise, the standard 6.5 litre naturally-aspirated V12 is expected to yield roughly 588 kW, which equates to a 63 kW increase over a standard Aventador LP 700-4. A standard Aventador goes from 0 – 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, so expect the SV to shave a tenth or two off that.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see the Aventador SV being developed in order to close the gap between the Lamborghini’s performance and the stratospheric levels claimed by the likes of Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche for their respective flagship hybrid hypercars. Without all the weight adding hybrid battery / electric trickery of course.

Spy photos show the test mule with a different front bumper and a small flap on the retractable rear wing, indicating that the SV will most likely get extra clever with its aerodynamics and produce more downforce than before. The prototype shows off large brake discs and callipers, as well as a revised wheel and tyre package.

An SV of the future will no doubt feature more lightweight componentry and a lighter, louder exhaust system. The standard Aventador already features extensive use of carbon fibre so it’s not clear what can be altered to deliver a measurable benefit when it comes to weight.
