Ford announced with much fanfare at the local Focus ST launch last year, that they’d supply the Johannesburg Metro Police with a fleet of entry-level, ST1, Focus hot hatches as special ‘interceptor’ cars. 184 kW and 360 Nm of torque will come in pretty handy when you’re chasing down the baddest, most violent criminals in the world.
Dubai, one of the city states in the United Arab Emirates in the U.A.E, is one of the least violent cities in the world. Many a South African ex-pat relocates to Dubai (and other U.A.E. city states) because “it’s just so much safer than South Africa,” and even the pettiest crimes are punishable by hefty prison terms.
If it isn’t to stop criminals, there must be another motivating factor behind the cities continuous stockpiling of the the most lavish police car fleet in the world? If images are to be believed as anything more than fleeting publicity stunts, the Dubai police force can now call on a Lamborghini Aventador; a Ferrari FF; a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT and a Bentley Continental GT to police its streets.
It’s all a bit ridiculous isn’t it? And now new pictures and reports suggest that the Dubai Police force is now set to add an Aston Martin One-77 to the lineup too. The Aston-Martin One-77 is not just fast but it is one of the rarest supercars ever produced and for Dubai police to add it to the fleet is simply a show of excess beyond any other.
The Aston Martin One-77 in question is even rarer in the fact that it’s one of just the seven making up the ‘Q-Series’, which sees a selection of exclusive interior and exterior features. No doubt, after a few weeks they’ll rip off the liveries and sell the cars on, but the fact that they’ve identified that they want to create the most outrageous police fleet in the world is in some way admirable we guess.
If it’s all a bit of flashy, oil-baron, fun; which would you consider the most intimidating Dubai police interceptor? We’d suggest the Lamborghini Aventador for sure. Followed probably by the Ferrari FF because you could at least kart a vigilante off to jail with it once you arrested him. And if we were Dubai police officers, left on the side of road noshing on donuts, we’d take the Bentley Continental GT for the relaxed interior ambiance.
