Do you see what we did with the alliteration there? It’s got a nice ring to it, as does the specifications of Aston Martin’s most extreme four-seat convertible ever. The Vanquish Volante builds upon Aston Martin’s new carbon fibre body from the Vanquish, and yet despite the light weight element the big British convertible still tips the scales at 1 844 kg. That’s hardly a light weight then, but it is only 9 kg heavier than the Vanquish coupe equivalent.
Then you take the standard 6.0-litre V12 engine from the Aston Martin Vanquish coupe and make sure it possesses 421 kW and 620 Nm of torque thanks to new direct injection. What you get is a 0 – 100 km/h sprint in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 294 km/h.
Speaking of the roof, the triple-skin lightweight fabric roof needs just 14 seconds to fold away. It is also the stiffest convertible model in the brand’s 100-year history and it possesses a full height windscreen (normally they’re stretched our shortened in the process) is another first for a convertible Aston Martin.
The Vanquish Volante has 14% greater torsional rigidity than its DBS predecessor. And, despite packing a folding roof in front of it, Aston says the new Volante’s boot space is a huge 50% larger than before, offering 279 litres of space.
With the exception of the roof, the Vanquish Volante is just as good looking as the Vanquish thanks to identical exterior design elements borrowed from the One-77 and evolution’s of the DBS. The Vanquish Volante also borrows the highly exotic interior cabin layout of the coupe, except in this particular car it’s just all very blue.
In the drivetrain department the Vanquish uses the Touchtronic 2 six-speed automatic gearbox from the Vanquish as well, and that sends power to the rear wheels of course. The Aston Martin Vanquish Volante is priced at $ 297 995 in the U.S. which puts it into the R3-million plus category locally.
