Reports suggest that Audi will be launching a GT Plus variant at the Ingolstadt companies’ annual motorsport soiree at the 24 hour endurance race of Le Mans. The last Audi R8 GT model was unleashed in 2011 (pictured here) but this newer version will no doubt come with a revised, more powerful, 5.2-litre V10 engine and further light weight credentials. The latest Audi R8 GT Plus has been spied testing extensively at the famous Nurburgring circuit.

The first iteration of the Audi R8 GT came out as the model’s most hardcore, stripped-out racer with a selection of new aerodynamic, lightweight components. Expected to pack a punch in the area of 412 kW and 540 Nm of normally aspirated torque, there will be a no-holds-barred rear-wheel drive version, much like the Lamborghini LP550-2, with a six-speed manual gearbox; while the all-wheel drive model will get the impressive dual-clutch, seven-speed S-Tronic transmission like all new Audi R8 models.

Performance figures for the new Audi R8 GT Plus suggest a dual-clutch gearbox sprint to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, making it 0.2 of a second faster than before, but the top speed is unlikely to be any more than the 320 km/h of the 2011 model. The first-generation Audi R8 GT was limited to just 333 units in coupe form. Hang tight for more details on the ultimate Audi R8 Plus model.
