Volvo has made an official announcement that it will be competing in the V8 Supercars touring car series in 2014. Predominantly an Australia-based formula, but with a handful of races held overseas, including one in the U.S., the V8 Supercars championship sees V8-powered family sedans turned into race cars for some of the toughest four-door racing on the planet.
The Volvo Polestar Racing team will be on the starting grid come 2014 with the Volvo S60. ‘But the Volvo S60 doesn’t have a V8 engine’ we hear you say. Correct, however, new regulations entitled ‘Car of the Future’ regulations, dictate that a single ‘control’ chassis to be used by all teams. Rear-wheel drive is still the order of the day, while engines and styling are unique, and don’t have to be featured in a production car model.
