It was never in doubt as to whether the Ford Ranger T6 would spawn a successor to the mid-sized Ford Everest SUV, which is what Ford have announced in concept form.
The Ford Everest Concept was created by Ford Australia’s production and design team, who earned the honour of Ford Motor Company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Alan Mulally, jetting in to unveil the concept at Sydney’s Fox Studios.
Little detail is available, but the Everest is likely to borrow the majority of its components from the Ford Ranger, which will establish the Everest as a competent off-roading SUV. The Ford Everest will go head-to-head against the Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Trailblazer and ageing Nissan Pathfinder in the four-wheel drive mid-size SUV market.
While the underpinnings are expected to be borrowed from the Ranger, the Everest Concept’s styling has taken its own direction. The front-end has completely new grille, headlights, and bumper design, while the designers look to have worked from a clean sheet at the rear too.
When the seven-seat Ford Everest eventually enters production, it will take the total number of SUVs on Ford showrooms to three, along with the recently launched Ford EcoSport and Ford Kuga.
