The first details of the 2014 Land Drover Discovery 4 have been released ahead of the off-roader’s Frankfurt Motor Show debut. While it may not look all that different, the rugged and luxurious SUV now benefits from revised styling, technology and a new engine.
First off, the Land Rover Discovery 4 has received a name change as of the 2014 model year. From now on it will be referred to simply as the ‘Discovery’.
Exterior changes are subtle, but include a new grille, headlight clusters with LED daytime running lights and a choice of two new alloy wheel designs.
In the engine bay sits a new, supercharged, 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that replaces the previous 5.0-litre V8. The new V6 produces 250 kW and 450 Nm.
While slightly down on power compared to the V8, the new V6 is said to be not far off the pace (8.0 seconds from 0 – 100 km/h) with the benefit of improved fuel economy. Both the new petrol and existing V6 turbo-diesel engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission supplied by ZF.
The interior has been updated with improvements to the soft-touch elements, while new items of technology have been added that include; Wade Sensing; Blind Spot Monitoring; Closing Vehicle Sensing; Reverse Traffic Detection and T-junction Cameras.
