You can think of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse as a road-going version of the Lamborghini Gallardo Blancpain Super Trofeo racing car. Is this wedge-shaped piece of mid-engine heaven the final piece on the Gallardo puzzle and the last Lamborghini Gallardo we’ll see since Gallardo production started 10 years ago? With more and more spy images of the Lamborghini replacement, the Cabrera (the unofficial name for now) doing the rounds, we can safely assume it is.

Although its been pictured before, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse has been officially unveiled at the Frankfurt International Motor Show and the Lamborghini boss also took the opportunity at the show to launch a new motorsport department; “Squadra Corse”, one that is responsible for customer racing and all motorsport activities including Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championships and GT3.

When it comes to the specifications of the ageing but oh-so-exciting supercar, the Lamborghini Gallardo Squadra Corse LP 570-4 has had its weight paired down to just 1 340 kg, meaning it is 70 kg lighter than the regular Gallardo LP 560-4. So with 7 kW more (10 extra horsepower in their naming nomenclature), the road-going racer boasts 425 kW and seriously impressive power-to-weight ratio: try 325 kW / ton.

The same 5.2-litre V10 paired with a six-speed E-Gear two-peddle transmission is still plying its trade underneath the engine cover and will allow the light weight machine to sprint to 100 km/h in a Ferrari 458-busting 3.4 seconds before topping out at 320 km/h. Stopping power at that speed won’t be a problem because the Squadra Corse gets standard carbon-ceramic brakes. Available in Bianco Monocerus (white), Rosso Mars (red), Giallo Midas (yellow), Grigio Thalasso (grey) and a race-honed aero kit; the car also features a prominent rear wing and a quick release engine cover to go with carbon fibre and aluminium body work.

The spartan race-inspired interior features lightweight carbon fibre and Alcantara throughout and looks like it will do well on your next trackday. As far as pricing goes… this Lamborghini is the equivalent of R2.5-million in Europe. So, this or are you willing to wait for the Lamborghini Gallardo replacement? Here is a launch promo video to help you mull it over.
