The Porsche 918 Spyder is the fastest production car to ever have lapped the famed Nurburgring Nordschleife at 6 minutes 57 seconds. Porsche factory race driver Marc Lieb steered the new 918 Spyder into the record books by beating the previous 7 minutes 11 seconds record held by the Gumpert Apollo Sport since 2009.
As a refresher, the Porsche 918 Spyder is powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.6-litre V8 producing 447 kW and an electric motor offering 210 kW. The combined power output is 652 kW, giving the hybrid supercar a 0 – 100 km/h sprint time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 343 km/h.
The Porsche 918 Spyder has been officially unveiled at the 2013 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show this week and pricing starts from US$845 000.
