Volkswagen has decided to launch a special edition ‘Dark Label’ Amarok bakkie at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. Paved by the SUV and 4×4 boom of the last decade, double-cab bakkies have definitely crossed the divide between commercial vehicles and every-day cars. Manufacturers realise this and are starting to provide the individualisation that bakkie owners demand.

Using the Volkswagen Amarok Trendline as a departure point, the special edition Volkswagen Amarok Dark Label bakkie features exclusive dark-accented add-ons like the black B-pillars, smokey tail lights and dark 18-inch Durban alloy wheels. The rear windows are tinted and there is LED-illumination for the number plate. You even get a sporty design stripe.

The blackout treatment doesn’t stop there, because the Volkswagen Amarok Dark Label also features black mirrors, a black rear bumper, black door handles and black styling bars with a unique silver protective undertray and silver tubular side steps. On the inside, there are Alcantara-covered and heated front seats and the upgraded Volkswagen radio with multifunction steering wheel audio controls.

The Volkswagen Amarok Dark Label is available with the same 2.0-litre TDI and BiTDI engines as you’ll find on standard Amarok models. In Europe, the special edition model will command a £5 000 (R78 000) premium over the Volkswagen Amarok Trendline. Expect to see similar limited edition Volkswagen Amaroks making their way to South Africa soon.
