BMW X4 Concept Arrives At JIMS

BMW-X4-Concept (5)

Taking pride of place at BMW’s JIMS 2013 stand was the latest member to join the BMW X range, the BMW X4 Concept. There isn’t a whole lot to know about this car at the moment, other than what you see in the metal. It will take the mini-crossover fight to the Mercedes-Benz GLA which debuted at JIMS just moments earlier, the only difference being the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class is production-ready and will be on the roads in 2014.

The BMW X4 Concept will come as an all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive Crossover/SAV (Sport Activity Vehicle) that fits in below the BMW X3 but it still looks good doesn’t it?

A lot of BMW designs have been a little lacklustre lately, but this piece of machinery just hits it right in the sweet spot somehow we think. Expect to see reduced wheel sizes and more modest detailing on the body kit when a full production model is ready. The X4 Concept is notable in pictures for its sloping rear roofline which is in stark contrast to the X3′s conventionality. The BMW Sports Activity Vehicle will join the X1/3/5/6 sporting distinctive four-door coupe looks. The BMW X4 Concept measures 4648 mm long, 1915 mm wide and 1622 mm high; all dimensions close to the X3, with the same wheelbase but a wider track.

Engines will undoubtedly be shared with those doing the business in the BMW 3-Series range, but thanks to sleeker proportions. 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel, as well as 3.0-litre six-cylinder engines will be the order of the day, with an active hybrid version a very real possibility too. Look out for this BMW on the roads within a year.
