2012 marks a decade since the Peugeot brand officially returned to the South African market as a fully-fledged subsidiary of the French vehicle manufacturer and they’ve made a great fist of their Johannesburg International Motor Show stand.
One of the key cars on display is the newly facelifted 3008. Retaining its robust shape but now with more-distinguished and elegant looks you’ll find on the Peugeot RCZ-R and the like, the newly-emphasised front end is characterised by new headlights and a smaller grille
We wouldn’t be so rude as so to say they’ve done an ‘about face’ on the 3008’s once-gaping mouth, but that is what they’ve done and the Peugeot 3008 should hopefully find a wider audience with consumers as a result. Reworked head and tail lamps are only the start, because extra chrome trim is found throughout with newly-designed alloy wheels from 16- to 18-inch sizes.
Changes are limited on the interior with little more than chromed inserts sprucing up the dash and centre console. Engines in South Africa are likely to include a 1.6 litre diesel e-HDi with 84 kW, a 1.6 litre VTi with 88 kW and a 1.6 litre THP with 120 kW but more detail will be made available closer to the launch.
