The British manufacturer’s latest SUV has arrived in South Africa with much pomp and circumstance, sporting an all-aluminium platform which results in a massive 420 kg weight saving. The new Range Rover Sport also gains a fifth-generation air suspension and latest-generation Terrain Response system to further extend the breadth of its capability.
One turbodiesel and two supercharged petrol engines make up the lineup and pricing starts from R825 500. The 5.0-litre 375 kW V8 and the new 3.0-litre 250 kW V6 is joined by a 215 kW 3.0-litre SDV6 diesel engine. All are paired with an advanced, electronically controlled ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox. Eager customers will be able to test-drive the newcomer, hailed as the most complete SUV ever, exactly a month after JIMS, starting from November 17th 2013. The flagship V8 Supercharged HSE Dynamic will come in at R1 263 600.
“The Land Rover brand has a 65-year heritage while the Range Rover nameplate can boast a legacy dating back to 1970,” explained Land Rover South Africa and sub-Sahara Africa’s Managing Director Kevin Flynn. “The Range Rover Sport was born in 2005 into a ‘white space’ market and this second-generation version takes the theory of an all-terrain performance vehicle to a new level. The end result is sensational.”
