We brought you our first driving impressions of the Renault Duster upon its launch in September, but Renault has followed up its Duster offensive with the Duster Détour show vehicle.
Renault describes the show piece as being a little Mad Max, a touch of the Terminator and a sprinkling of Dakar dust ‘n dirt. Behind the marketing hype, however, the Détour is the product of a unique partnership between Renault Design Central Europe and a specialised South African design studio based in Johannesburg.
The Détour features a raised body for added ground clearance, 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tyres, as well as wider wheel arches to house them.
Cosmetic enhancements include tinted windows, two-tone ‘pearl yellow’ and matt grey paintwork, as well as a customised front grille and ‘get-out-of-my-way’ nudge bar. Further extras include daytime running lights and custom headlamp clusters. The rear of the Détour features a roof spoiler, black LED tail lights and double exhausts that exit beneath a rear diffuser.
While the Détour is chiefly a show vehicle with no plans for production, Renault do offer a number of accessories for the Duster range and, with a bit of luck, we’d like to think we could see this accessories catalog expanded to include items inspired by the Détour.
