After a decade of production of Lamborghini’s most prolific supercar, the Lamborghini Gallardo has ceased production and this Rosso Mars Red LP 570-4 Spyder Performante model is the final one of 14 022 cars to roll off the production line in Sant’Agata, Bolognese – it is destined to join a wealthy collector.
An astonishing fact is that almost half of all Lamborghinis sold over their 50 year history are Gallardos, and the semi-automatic E-Gear transmission outsold the manual on a scale of nine to one. The Gallardo supercar has had many facelifts over the decade long production run and a naming convention change from pure Gallardo to the LP 550-60-70 and -2-4 system in later years. The Lamborghini Gallardo helped lift Lamborghini production from around 250 cars per year to over 2000 cars.
The Gallardo was mainly available in all-wheel-drive, but some exemplary rear-wheel-drive models were made available in recent years and we believe these to be remarkably underrated cars. The Lamborghini Gallardo spawned many limited edition cars as the years passed, including the most recent LP 570-4 Squadra Corse which was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Ferrucio Lamborghini may have started out life as a humble tractor manufacturer who didn’t like his Ferrari very much and produced his first car purely out of spite, but even he would be proud of the success of the enduring Gallardo. Here’s hoping the next-generation Cabrera (as it’s known for now) will be just as successful for the Italian company.
