Japanese manufacturer, Suzuki, has released a number of images of upcoming concepts for the Tokyo Motor Show. They include a mix of vehicles that look like soon-to-be-production-ready cars and a few light-hearted showcases of the Suzuki way of life.
First up is the Suzuki Crosshiker Concept (above) which is a compact crossover study. It’s not far different from the Suzuki Regina compact hatch concept from the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show but it does look like a likely contender for the Ford EcoSport and similar tall-riding compact crossovers. Suzuki says the Crosshiker is, ‘eco-friendly on the inside, while having a design with personality on the outside.’ The Suzuki Crosshiker Concept weighs just 810 kg and is powered by a newly developed 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine but Suzuki haven’t said if it will be turbocharged or not.
A real head-turning concept car is the Suzuki X-Lander Concept and it’ll almost certainly be one of the star attractions on the Suzuki stand in Tokyo. Suzuki say the X-Lander is a hybrid 4WD based on the popular Suzuki Jimny SUV so it’s also equipped with the Jimny’s normally-aspirated 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine but it gains an electric motor and a new ‘automatically controlled manual transmission.’ The Suzuki X-Lander sports no roof for a rare alfresco 4×4 motoring experience, but because of its lack of a roof, it’s unlikely this particular Suzuki will actually make it into production without the styling being radically toned down.
Finally, the third Suzuki concept car is the Suzuki Hustler; sporting no intended link to the adult magazine we’re sure. The compact Hustler is designed as a practical, boxy crossover to suit those who love the outdoors. To that point the Suzuki Hustler features SUV-style with a skidplate and plastic wheel-arch cladding, with a roomy and comfortable interior.
Suzuki say these are, ‘Small Cars for a Big Future,’ we look forward to bringing you more from Tokyo Motor Show this month.
