The new rally car follows the launch of the TMG GT86 CS-V3 circuit racer launched earlier this year, which won its class in the Nürburgring 24 Hours, and is a the cost-effective way for private people to go racing in the brilliant Toyota 86, as we know it here in South Africa. The TMG GT86 CS-R(V)3 is aimed at private individuals or teams who want to compete in regional or national and FIA-sanctioned rallies across the world. TMG build the 86s to strict accordance to R3 regulations: as in its equipped with six-speed sequential gearbox, limited slip differential, upgraded brakes, and several safety improvements.

Rear-wheel drive and 149 kW of power from the Boxer engine stays the same and the performance is broadly the same too: 0 – 100 km/h in 7 seconds and a top speed of 225 km/h. The price tag of around €38 500 (R500 000 plus at the current exchange rate) is higher though but that’s because TMG has stiffened the chassis and optimised weight distribution for motorsport while installing racing exhaust, suspension and brakes. Nico Ehlert, TMG engineering boss said: “Rallying is in our blood at TMG, so it is very exciting to announce that we will be expanding our rally operations. The GT86 CS-R3 promises to be a thrilling car on the rally stages; with rear-wheel drive we can expect some dramatic action that is sure to be entertaining for drivers and fans alike.  (GT86 CS-V3 pictured)
