The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer fills the need for a compact MPV in the BMW model line-up. ‘Need’ might be a strong word considering the array of BMWs currently available, but the Mercedes-Benz B-Class exists and so BMW had a duty to give the world a competitor. Surely it is just a matter of time before we hear of an Audi A2.
The 2 Series Active Tourer is based on the same platform underpinning the new Mini, holds a transversely mounted engine and drives the front wheels. Yes. this is BMW’s first front-wheel drive vehicle. The line-up will include a choice of 220i and 225i petrol-powered models, as well as a choice of 216d and 220d turbo-diesel offerings. In European markets, xDrive all-wheel drive versions of the 225i and 220d will be offered.
