BMW’s straight-six engine has come a long way. Ten years ago the highly tuned 3.2-litre version was housed in the rigid and race-inspired BMW M3 CSL. Today, its descendant is more efficient and more powerful thanks to turbocharging. Found in the new ‘soft-core’ M Performance version of an all-new model range, the BMW 2 Series, the BMW M235i isn’t the M3 CSL’s modern-day equivalent, (for that we’ll have to wait for the hard-core and to be confirmed 2 M Coupe), but despite the lack of full-blown BMW M components, how do these old and new BMW performance coupé’s compare?
