In the past week, two nasty hot-hatch crashes have been caught on film at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Both drivers were caught out in the same manner, on the same corner: running wide and placing a wheel on the grass, before lifting off the throttle and setting up the understeer that would make them so popular on Youtube.
The first accident sees a two-door Volkswagen Golf 5 GTI lose all sense of direction in spectacular fashion. Thankfully no other cars or bike riders were involved and according to the video’s publisher, “The drivers were not hurt! The driver was taken only for a check to the hospital.” The same is unlikely to be said for his ego and his bank balance.
The next crash is far less violent, but does involve the latest Renault Clio RS200 EDC. There are no points for guessing whether the driver lost his deposit with the rental company.
