French rally driver Guerlain Chicherit attempted a 101-metre jump in a purpose-built, 1 000 HP, Mini Countryman in March this year, with the goal of beating Tanner Foust’s 100-metre record set at the Indy 500 in 2011. Despite months of preparation for the ramps and car, as well as many test runs having gone according to the calculations of his dedicated engineer, Chicherit’s flight ended in spectacular fashion in the Rhône-Alpes.
This video documents the story of the run-up to the jump, the intensity in Chicherit’s eyes when he realises it’s all gone terribly wrong, as well as the aftermath of it all.
