The upcoming Porshce 911 GT3 RS has been caught putting in some flying laps at the Nordschleife. While the large rear wing stays with GT3 RS tradition, new features include a double-bubble roof that’s made from a magnesium composite, as well as air vents afore the rear arches, a’la 911 Turbo.
The engine has not yet been confirmed, but the Turbo body style has sparked rumours of a turbocharger lurking beneath the rear wing. The test mule in question sounds decided naturally-aspirated, however, and traditionally the RS has always retained the GT3′s engine and matched it with closer ratios and a lighter overall kerb weight.
The possibility does exist that for this next GT3 RS, Porsche may jump straight to the bigger capacity 4.0-litre as it produced with the 911 GT3 RS 4.0, in which case power would jump from the GT3′s 350 kW to around 373 kW or an even 500 hp. This could also explain the more agressive aerodynamics package, such as the canards up front, which were also a GT3 RS 4.0 trademark.
