The updated Nissan Juke has just arrived in dealerships across South Africa and the changes should comfortably continue the car’s original quirkiness which saw 500 000 global sales.
The Nissan Juke is a surprising vehicle in many respects,” says Konstantin von Vieregge, General Manager of Marketing and Planning at Nissan South Africa. “Apart from its unique styling, the slightly irreverent Nissan Juke has surprised market-watchers with its performance and its appeal to styling enthusiasts of all ages, both male and female.”
Distinguishing features fitted to the new Nissan Juke include fog lights housed in striking black air intake and a retooled front bumper. These flank a reshaped grille while the Nissan emblem gains more prominence. The main lights come equipped with daytime running technology – standard across all models – and have been reshaped for dramatic effect. Wing mirrors are bolder and incorporate turn signals.
The Juke’s sloping roofline converges at a restyled tailgate and the car’s already macho stance appears wider and lower, primarily from the diffuser and air dam. Rear lights share a similar design to the fronts and sharp eyes might spot the sportier aerial. Most models, apart from the 1.2 DIG-T Acenta, are fitted with an upsized alloy.
The body-hugging cockpit retains fun elements of old but also offers a more premium look first seen in Qashqai and X-Trail. Base models come with equipment like Bluetooth, cruise control and full climate control. Nissan have cleverly improved rear boot space by lowering the spare wheel. Doesn’t sound like much but the Nissan Juke has 40% more loading space – an increase from 251 litres to 354 litres.
Engine choice is widespread and now every engine in the range is turbo charged. The 1.6-litre replaced by a 85kW/190Nm 1.2 turbo, the high performance 140kW/240Nm 1.6 turbo remains and completing the lineup is the 1.5dci quoted as 81kW and 260Nm. An X-Tronic 4WD Nissan Juke continues to be available but due to the complex rear suspension, doesn’t benefit from the same increase in boot space.
All Juke models are sold with a 3-year / 45 000 kilometre service plan and a 3-year / 100 000 kilometre mechanical warranty.
