FAW V2 # Like in South Africa 2015

Car names are not what they used to be. This is the FAW V2 # Like and it’s a car that anybody over 50 won’t relate to. But that’s not an issue because at R109 995 the FAW V2 # Like (or Like for short) is aimed squarely at the youth on a tight budget.

The limited edition model adds a lot of specification for the R10 000 premium over the standard FAW V2. This includes 15-inch alloys, Bluetooth and a 5-speaker MP3 compatible audio system. FAW has even gone as far as adding a navigation system, although presumably the target market will prefer to use their cell phones. Combined, together with a functional black or grey interior, makes the FAW V2 Like, look appealing and it’s only the Datsun Go that matches it on price.

FAW neglected to mention the power from the 1.3-litre engine which raised our suspicions but some digging later reveals that the engine makes 67kW and should use 6.1l/100km. A 0-100km/h time proved more difficult to research – or is that achieve?

What else do we like? The 320 litre boot is about double the size of what the others offer and the FAW V2 includes a 3-yr/100 000km warranty and 3-yr/45 000km service plan.

“The introduction of this limited edition V2 hatchback follows extensive market research with dealers and new car buyers which highlighted the two essential areas which are critical to sales success in South Africa these days,” explained general manager of FAW, Pedro Pereira . “They are a visual attractiveness and a high degree of functionality. Interestingly these are the same attributes buyers look for when buying a new smartphone. We believe our enhancements in developing the limited edition V2 # LIKE have hit the bull’s-eye in all aspects.”
