The phrase “think outside of the box” has become very mainsteam over time. Ford Motors does not do ‘mainstream’, which is why they made the “box” better, in the form of the new Ford B-Max, scheduled to arrive in South Africa in the third-quarter of 2015. According to Tracy Delate, General Marketing Manager at Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa, the Ford B-Max’s “ingenius design opens the doors” to demonstate exactly how versatile and exciting compact vehicles can be.
Making use of the same B-car platform seen on the Ford Fiesta, the Ford B-Max embodies Ford’s vision of a “premium multi-activity vehicle”, or MAV. One of the most influential factors in the Ford B-Max’s design is the clever use of the doors. Two normal hinged doors at the front are common but what sets the Ford B-Max apart from these vehicles would be the ingenius sliding rear-doors, which integrate the central body pillars into the bodyshell of the door. When both the front and rear doors of the Ford B-Max are open, the result is a 1,5 meter wide aperture, providing a spacious and unobstructed entry and exit. Pair that with simple one-handed operating folding seats and the Ford B-Max easily becomes appealing to almost every busy mom who likes to do a lot of shopping and needs that extra bit of space when it comes to getting the kids in and out of the car.
Not much has been released on the performance side as the full line-up will only be revealed at launch, but rest assured that there will be a 1.0-litre Ford EcoBoost petrol derivitive and possibly the 1.5-litre Ecoboost. Diesel variants are could follow later, as was the case with the launch of the 2015 Ford Focus.
By the sound of it, the variety of in-car technology employed in the Ford B-Max should reflect the features shown in their bigger models headed up by Ford’s voice-activated in-car connctivity system, also known as SYNC available alongside a full length panoramic roof.
