News: McLaren P1 GTR for the road

The McLaren P1 GTR which was initially designed purely for the track could undergo several modifications required to sneak it through a roadworthy test. British company Lanzante is investigating the possibility in in response to current P1 GTR owners apparently wanting to use their P1 GTRs more often. It is believed that Lanzante has already got the approval from McLaren and the MSO division – although neither will be directly involved.

Only existing McLaren P1 owners were eligible for the P1 GTR and all 40 examples, at roughly R30 million, have been sold. At this point there are no details on what modifications would be required to make the cars road legal and it’s not a simple matter of governing the top speed. We’d guess it would involve a raised ride height, smaller turning circle, bigger mirrors and some more suitable tyre tread.

If Lanzante is successful it would pour water on the rumour that due to tightening technical regulations, the next generation Mclaren P1 would be a track-only car.
