News: Aston Martin DBX gets green light
The Aston Martin DBX crossover has been confirmed for production. Following a $200 million investment, the DBX has been given the green light by the British automaker. The concept was recently unveiled in early March at the Geneva Motor Show and generated an extraordinary amount of interest in the motoring world. The new model will be responsible for expanding Aston Martin into the luxury Grand Tourer crossover market segment.
The $200million funding will be provided to Aston Martin over a long and short term period, with half of the amount already paid and the remaining half supplied over the course of the next 12 months. This funding will allow Aston Martin to “realise the DBX and other new luxury vehicles that will form the strongest and most diverse portfolio” in the history of the Aston Martin company.
The launch of the Aston Martin DBX highlights the interest that Aston Martin has in appealing to a new potential market on a larger, global scale, with the DBX representing the radical diversion of the brand to defy conventional thinking about the luxury GT segment. The crossover also embodies the immense evolution that the company’s design language has undergone, focusing on day-to-day practicality, while maintaining the level of luxury and performance synonymous with Aston Martin.
The DBX’s exterior paint is made from machine billet aluminium, and a special Black Pearl Chromium paint that offers an element of reflectivity that cannot be obtained with normal paint finishes. The interior of the Aston Martin DBX should be nothing less than refined, considering the success of their previous sport-luxury models such as the Aston Martin DBS, Vantage and DB9.
What does make the Aston Martin DBX revolutionary is the way in which it is powered, using environmentally friendly lithium sulphur powered electric motors mounted inboard of the wheels. Carbon ceramic brakes and a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) as seen on the BMW i8 underline the pioneering qualities.
The Aston Martin DBX should “help drive future growth, always ensuring that Aston Martin builds the world’s most beautiful cars that deliver true sporting ability with passion and refined luxury.”
