Toyota continues to ring the changes on their existing models, starting with the Etios, moving to the Yaris and now reaching the popular Toyota Corolla 2015 model. Truthfully these changes have been minor but they do prove that Toyota is continuously on the lookout for ways to strengthen areas which may have fallen behind. Considering that the price has barely grown to accommodate the new additions, holds some appeal.
A supply surplus of Daytime Running Lights has been put to good use on the Corolla, coming as standard across all models while upgrading to the 1.6-litre Sprinter model comes with sporty accessories befitting the name. Anthracite alloys are in vogue and Toyota has been daring – by its standards – fitting a boot spoiler for an athletic profile. Additional colours and trims bolster the model range.
Less superfluous is the multi-media touchscreen which in our experience has proved effective in delivering quick response times and crisp graphics. A reverse camera is included and this is not because that boot spoiler is so large that it obstructs rearward vision…
Only one addition to the engine range but there’s a flavour for everyone from the conservative to the less conservative. Our pick in the latest Toyota Corolla range is the 1.4-litre D-4D (a Car of the Year Finalist) with the 1.3-litre aimed towards fleet and rental companies and the 1.6-litre VVT-I engine being a sensible performer. Signing off the range is a new-to-Corolla 1.8-litre VVT-I petrol engine. Only the two top petrol models can be optionally fitted with Toyota’s CVT automatic.
