If you wanted a luxury super-limo a few months ago, you would immediately turn to Bentley or Rolls-Royce, depending on your personal preferences. This will no longer be the case come 2017 after the reveal of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6.
At almost six metres long, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 is a behemoth of a 2+2 coupe that’s is destined to exchange blows with the likes of the Rolls-Royce Wraith and other super-luxurious sporting models when it hits production in 2017.
The power is supplied by a 552kW all-electric system with an impressive range of over 322 kilometers. 0-100km/h happens in under four seconds and the top speed is limited to 250km/h. Fast charging capabilities allow the driver to add an extra 100km of range in just 5 minutes.
The huge 24-inch wheels, gullwing doors, extended bonnet and rounded tail add a very SLS-like ambience to the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6; almost an interpretation of a grown up, more reserved SLS from the future. Step inside the Vision and it looks like it’s been sent straight from the year 2037. The unconventional seats, simple dials and swooping dash design all give it an exclusive and premium look.
Mercedes describes the interior design of the autonomous capable coupe as “inside out” and says it features a ‘cool’ colour scheme to contrast the ‘hot’ one on the outside. In typical Maybach style, buyers will receive a set of suitcases specifically made for the car. The high-resolution display in front of the driver provides all the infotainment and navigation information you need, and the front windscreen will also serve as a display for driver-related data.
There’s a set of thin headlights and a colossal chrome grille dominating the front-end, while the rounded ‘boat tail’ at the rear is intended to look like a luxury yacht. A split rear window and a rear diffuser complete the dramatic look at the back.
The concept will be a longer, wider and more exclusive model to sit above the S-Class Coupe in the Mercedes family line-up and a production version of the new car should be revealed at some point next year, priced north of R4million.
