First details on 2017 VW Golf revealed.

Set to reach South African shores in the second quarter of 2017 is Volkswagen’s facelifted Golf which features subtle exterior tweaks, a more updated interior and more power.

The front fascia includes a slightly reworked cooling vents and chrome highlighting to give it a wider look. Added to the options list is full LED headlamps. The rear gains more LED technology where optional sweeping indicator units add a touch of sophistication.

Step inside the refreshed Golf, and you get a treatment of quality material. Good news is that the updated Golf now offers Active Info Display (at extra cost). The same system as the one fitted to the current Volkswagen Tiguan, the driver can configure the fully digital (12,3-inch) instrument cluster to one of five layout options.

Incorporating many of the modern technologies found in other Group products, prospective Golf owners can now choose from up to five different (touchscreen-based) infotainment systems. In top-of-the-range Discover Pro specification, such modern conveniences as gesture control make accessing a full bouquet of new entertainment and safety features that much simpler.

Volkswagen has plans to introduce the facelifted Golf with an all-new 1,5-litre turbopetrol engine offered in two states of tune. Incorporating cylinder-deactivation technology, this new 110 kW/250 N.m can return a claimed 4,9 L/100 km, with a corresponding 110 g/km worth of CO2 emissions.

Oh…and an all-new seven-speed dual clutch gearbox gradually replaces the six-speed DSG transmission.

The GTI range gains an increase of power in the standard model from 162 kW to 169 kW, however, should you require more oomph, a Performance Pack boasting 180 Kw is available for a much bigger price tag.

At this point, there’s no information on how the facelift will affect the top-of-the-range R model
