Mercedes-AMG goes aero crazy with C63 R

Get a taste of DTM with the recently launched Mercedes-AMG C63 R

When you think ‘Hardcore track-ready German Coupe’, chances are you’ll think of the fresh BMW M4 GTS and, well, nothing else. We can only imagine that this thought had been doing the rounds between the employees of AMG until one of them decided that enough is enough.

Enter the Mercedes-AMG C63 R Coupe. Sporting a less-than-subtle racing wing and a breathtakingly gorgeous blue finish, the C63 R will be the most track-focused C-Class ever (or at least until Affalterbach digs up the ‘Black Series’ badge) and will have its sights set firmly on the M4 GTS, the fastest Bavarian road car in history.

A closer look at the pre-production guise of the C63 R reveal many improvements that will differentiate it from the current C63 S, like the light-weight carbon fibre boot lid and that awful rear wing that rests on top of it, or the much more pronounced aero splitter that can be seen at the front, although we d on’t expect it to stop there on the final product. Many would agree that the pre-production guise of the C63 R looks too tame, and we’re certain that AMG will do something a bit more extravagant. Think A45 AMG aero kit meets SLS Black Series.

We’re not expecting any major changes in the heart of the C63 R, especially nothing along the lines of, say, water-injection *ahem*. Although we do wish that the wizards of AMG could find a way to shoehorn the dry-sump lubrication system from the AMG GT into the C63 R. Either way, the 0-100 km/h time should fall below 3,7 seconds thanks to power and torque figures around the 410kW and 750Nm areas respectively, which is more than generous for a car of this nature.
