Ogier could return to Citroen after VW’s WRC exit

One aspect about Volkswagen’s swansong in WRC that few have touched on is where the drivers are going? We’re talking serious WRC talent; we’re talking 4-time champion Sebastien Ogier, fast but accident-prone Jari-Matti Latvala and very underrated Andreas Mikkelsen. Toytoa’s participation in WRC for 2017 might open some doors, but for Ogier, French team Citroen might be the fitting end for Ogier’s career having got his first WRC win there before moving to Volkswagen.

Citroen would be open to considering having the recently retrenched Sebastein Ogier driving one of its car following Volkswagen’s shock withdrawal from the WRC, but not at the expense of its new young driver line-up of Kris Meeke, Craig Breen and Stephane Lefebvre.

“I have the driver line-up for next year,” Citroen rally boss Yves Matton explained.”All I will say is that if Sebastien Ogier gives me a call I will answer and we will have a chat, but there’s no question about changing my driver line-up for next season.

“We took the decision to develop young drivers, but when you have a four-time world champion this can be interesting. “I have not spoken with Sebastien — it’s for him to decide what he wants to do.

“It’s his decision to take about the future, but I want to make clear that there is no idea in this team to change the driver line-up we have made.”
