Every year, European VW and Audi fans descend on Reifnitz, on the shores of Wörthersee lake in Austria, for the annual Wörthersee Tour. The tour offers the opportunity for tuning and customsing specialists to showcase their cars and accessories. This year Volkswagen has unveiled Wörthersee editions of its all-new Golf 6 GTI and Polo models.
The Golf GTI Wörthersee 09 concept is finished in striking red metallic paint, which VW calls “Firespark Metallic”, and is fitted with 19-inch black alloy rims, lowered suspension, and a set of smoked LED tail lights.
Inside, the GTI Wörthersee 09 features brushed aluminium trim, along with gloss-black frames bordering the air vents.
The seats are covered in a combination of black and red nappa leather with “Berry White” leather piping along the edges.
Unfortunately that’s about where the excitement stops for the Wörthersee 09 edition of the Golf GTI, as the power output remains unchanged over the standard GTI’s 155kW. Still, with a 6.9 second sprint to 100km/h and a top speed of 238km/h, it’s far from disappointing.
Volkswagen also took the opportunity to spice up their new Polo in a similar fashion. Although there is no Polo GTI as yet, a standard 1.4-litre has been VW’s model of choice.
Clothed in the same “Firespark Metallic” paint, the Polo Wörthersee 09 sports a pair of black rally stripes and a set of polished 18-inch “Budapest” alloy wheels, hugged by the Polo’s lower ride height.
The inside sees a similar black interior, with the same gloss-black framed air vents, and similarly styled seat trim in black and “Berry White” nappa leather.
Like its bigger sibling, the Polo Wörthersee 09 is an aesthetic project only and so power for the Polo remains at the standard 63kW.
