Although officially launched back in August 2007, it is appropriate to mention Opel’s tribute to the Nürburgring in light of recent articles about the new Megane R26.R, which recently set a new class leading lap time, and Focus RS, which has been testing at the world famous circuit recently.
Accoring to Opel “The “Nürburgring Edition” is particularly eye-catching thanks to the sporty white lacquer, large rear spoiler, as well as exterior mirrors and B-pillars in carbon look. The racing circuit’s red signet also adorns the B-pillars. The second-generation IDSPlus2 chassis is familiar from the Vectra and Zafira OPC models and ensures even greater driving dynamics in the Astra OPC Nürburgring Edition. Weight optimized white rims, a two-millimeter wider track and ultra high performance tires complete the high-performance package. The interior features special full leather trim, carbon-look décor and a badge on the glove compartment with engraved serial number. An image of the race track is also engraved in the head rests.”
Unfortunately the changes to this special edition are mostly cosmetic. The engine remains unchanged from the standard OPC producing 177kW from the 2.0 litre turbo, which gets the car from zero to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 244 km/h.
Only 825 of this limited edition were scheduled to be built and as mentioned by Opel each car receives a badge ahead of the gear stick indicating the production number.
The Nürburgring Edition went on sale in Europe at the beginning of 2008.
