In February this year BMW announced the availability of a factory performance kit for its 3,0-litre twin-turbocharged, 6-cylinder engine, found under the hood of the BMW 135i and BMW 335i models.
Initially only available to European buyers, with talk of making the kit available in the US, good news for South African BMW owners, is that the kit is now available locally. For R24 265, excluding labour, owners will benefit from a boost in power output from 225 kW to 240 kW, an increase in torque from 400 N.m to 430 N.m for cars with a manual transmission, or 450 N.m for models fitted with BMW’s Steptronic transmission. Additional radiator and air intakes have also been designed to deal with the extra heat generated.
To let other road users know you’re not driving a standard BMW, a BMW Performance Aerodynamics Kit is available. The aerodynamics package feautres a revised front apron and integrated kidney grille surround; carbon fibre rear spoiler, diffuser and mirror caps; as well as lowered suspension and a set of light alloy rims to complete the visual appeal.
To increase stopping power, larger ventilated brake discs are available and the six-piston BMW Perfromance brake callipers are finished in BMW Performance yellow. A BMW Performance strut brace is also available to limit torsional roll during cornering.
Inside, sculpted bucket seats, racing-style LED displays and an enhanced multifunction sports steering wheel are just some of the components that add to the performance experience. The LED display shows a variety of information such as oil and water temperature, transverse and longitudinal acceleration as well as recommended gear shift point and time. In addition, the gearshift and parking brake levers are covered in Alcantara, the pedals and foot rests are covered in aluminium and steel entry strips, bearing BMW Performance lettering, round off the available BMW Performance options.
All BMW Performance components are available individually or can be combined to form a ‘harmoniously integrated overall package’ that retains all the advantages of the BMW Warranty and Motorplan.
