Audi Q3 Compact-SUV Could Debut Mid-2011

Posted on 18 January 2011 by Scott

Audi’s new A3-based Q3 crossover continues to elude the media and the public eye, despite Audi confirming in 2009 that its compact SUV will make its international debut in late 2011.

With its launch year now upon us, reports of official launch dates are beginning to appear. Insiders at Audi have reportedly confirmed a launch for Europe’s Autumn, likely around September or Autumn. If those dates are to be believed, Audi may be planning to reveal the Q3 either at March’s Geneva Motor Show or, more likely, September’s Frankfurt International Motor Show.

Expected to ride on a modified version of the Volkswagen Tiguan’s chassis, the Q3 will likely have VW-sourced powertrains sitting beneath its edgy Teutonic bodywork. Performance, however, is expected to be much sharper than its nearest Volkswagen cousins – Audi describes the Q3’s driving characteristics as “supremely sporty”.

It is already known that the Q3 will be built at SEAT’s plant in Martorell, Spain, with production capacity for around 80,000 units each year. The smallest SUV in the Audi line-up, the Q3 will join the mid-sized Q5 (built in Ingolstadt, Germany) and the larger Q7 (built in Slovakia).
