Porsche has officially taken the cover off the Boxster S Black Edition. The Boxster S gets a set of upgrades similar to the package we saw last week for the 911. The package includes more power and more standard kit for a higher price, although exclusivity is also offered as this variant of the Boxster will be limited to 987 cars worldwide.
The Boxster S Black Edition gets the same upgrades applied to the Spyder. An extra 7 kW and 10 Nm of torque, take the 3.4-litre flat six to 235 kW from 7 200 r/min and 370 Nm from 4 750 r/min. This brings the 0 – 100km/h time down to 5.2 seconds and top speed up to 276 km/h. Owners will have the option to include the 7-speed Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) gearbox for a 0.1 gain in the 0 – 100km/h time with a small reduction in top speed as compensation. As standard, the Black Edition will feature a six-speed manual transmission.
The new black colour design extends to the black painted rear side air intake grilles, the twin tailpipe of the exhaust system and the model lettering painted in black on the rear luggage compartment lid. An embossed Black Edition model designation on the side of the fabric hood identifies the car and the roll-over bars are painted in black to finish the look. New, ten-spoke, lightweight design alloys are standard with size 235/35 ZR 19 front and 265/35 ZR 19 rear tyres.
Inside, the stainless steel door entry guards feature the “Black Edition” model lettering in black. The trim strips of the dashboard and shift levers or gear selector (depending on your gearbox choice) are finished in black, as well as the dials on the instrument cluster and the partial leather seats with the Porsche emblem embossed in the headrests. For a little extra you can specify the full leather interior.
“Comfort”, “Infotainment”, and “Design” equipment packages come as standard. Wind deflectors, anti-dazzle interior and exterior mirrors with rain sensors, cruise control and a climate control system are also standard; as are sat-nav, the Sound Package Plus and Bi-Xenon lights. Other options available for standard Boxsters are also available.
The first European customers will receive their cars in March 2011.
