A racy ‘R’ version of the Volkswagen Polo has been confirmed as many times as it has been denied over the past couple of years, but spy photographers think they’ve finally caught their first glimpse of the hot Polo R.
Wearing a GTI body, the prototype was caught in Spain and apparently features a 1.6-litre TSI engine from the Polo R WRC. Before you get too excited, rumors suggest the four-cylinder will be detuned to produce 154 kW instead of the WRC car’s 221 kW. If this is correct, we can expect it to accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in around the six seconds and continue on to a top speed of 240 km/h.
The Polo R will likely be launched in Europe late next year.
