Revealed in these official pictures, the Citroen C4 Aircross joins the C4 and DS4 hatchbacks, as well as the C4 Picasso and Grand Picasso MPVs, and caters for those customers looking for a little extra room and some off-road ability.
Based on the Mitsubishi ASX, the Aircross will take on rivals such as the VW Tiguan and Nissan Qashqai. The entry level model will feature front-wheel drive only, whereas all other versions will be fitted with a clever switchable four-wheel drive system. A small toggle behind the gear lever allows the driver to select one of three modes. A two-wheel drive setting is designed to maximise fuel consumption during normal on-road conditions, a four-wheel drive setting juggles torque between the front and rear axles for maximum traction and a third mode locks both axles for coping with more severe off-road situations.
Inside the C4 Aircross there’s space for five and a 442-litre boot – 83-litres more than the DS4. A large panoramic glass roof heightens the sense of space and is illuminated at night by integrated LED lights.
The C4 Aircross is expected to come with the same powertrain options as the standard C4 model. This means there will be 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine producing 115 kW and a 2.0-litre HDi diesel producing 110 kW on offer.
