Audi South Africa has brought the limited production Audi R8 GT to the Joburg Motor Show. Global production of this model has been limited to 333 units and only seven of these cars have been allocated to South Africa, with all having already been pre-sold at a price tag of R2 620 000.
The latest member of the Audi R8 family is lighter, more powerful and faster than any of the other models in the range. The output of its 5.2-litre V10 engine has been increased to 412 kW, while vehicle mass has been reduced by 100 kg. The R8 GT accelerates from 0 – 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 320 km/h. For what its worth, Audi claim fuel consumption of 13.9 L/100km, but in our opinion, if you achieve those figures you won’t be having any fun.
The Audi R8 GT is fitted with the 6-speed R-tronic transmission, which can be controlled via gear shift paddles on the steering wheel. The R-tronic features a Launch Control programme, which helps it achieve that 3.6 second sprint time. Many who’ve driven the car bemoan the lack of a manual transmission, as the R-tronic automated manual is on the snatchy side and lacks the level of involvement provided by the 6-speed manual.
The Audi R8 GT has a front:rear weight distribution of 43:57 and together with Quattro all-wheel drive, sends the majority of the engine’s power to the rear wheels.
