The all-new Mazda BT-50 made its South African debut at the 2011 Johannesburg International Motor Show.
“We are very excited to be unveiling the new BT-50 for the first time at the Johannesburg International Motor Show,” says Doreen Mashinini, Mazda Marketing Manager. “The dynamic new design combined with increased interior space, longer wheelbase and greater power ensures all the comfort of a passenger car, alongside the versatility of a pickup.”
The All-New Mazda BT-50 offers more space for passengers and cargo than ever before, as well as a maximum towing capacity of up to 3 350 kg.
The All-New BT-50 will be available with two new advanced diesel engines, both offering significant increases in power and torque with improved fuel efficiency. Headlining the range will be a 3.2 litre five-cylinder turbodiesel engine producing 147 kW and 470 Nm of torque, mirroring the figures of its platform stablemate, the new 2012 Ford Ranger. The second engine is the MZ-CD 2.2 – a four-cylinder 2.2-litre diesel, which produces 110 kW of power and 375 Nm of torque (up 5 kW and 45 Nm over the outgoing 2.5-litre diesel engine).
Fuel consumption and emissions data is still to be released, although Mazda says both engines will offer enhanced efficiency. Currently, the 2.5-litre engine uses 8.5 L/100km on the combined cycle, while the 3.0-litre diesel averages 9.5 L/100km.
The all-new Mazda BT-50 will go on sale locally in 2012.
