After years of speculation, Mercedes has confirmed plans to build an SLS AMG Black Series.
Speaking with Motor Trend, Tobias Moers – Director of Vehicle Development at Mercedes-AMG GmbH – said “We absolutely have to do a Black Series” of the SLS. He declined to give additional information, but previous reports have indicated the car could have a revised 6.2-litre V8 engine with approximately 447 kW and 677 Nm of torque.
An SLS Black Series would be the fastest and most powerful AMG model ever produced. Apart from the engine, expect engineers to fit a wild bodykit with lightweight carbon fibre panels. A 0 – 100 km/h sprint time of three seconds is likely, with a top speed of 320 km/h. Stiffened suspension, uprated brakes and racing-style seats would complete the package.
There’s no news on when we can expect to see the SLS AMG Black Series, but AMG performance director Christoph Jung said it could be “at the end of the car’s life cycle”, which is likely to be around 2014.
